Information
EcoStruxure Automation Expert is a fully software‑defined automation platform designed to modernize industrial systems by decoupling control from the hardware infrastructure. Based on the IEC 61499 standard, it enables the development, deployment, and maintenance of distributed, modular, and portable automation applications across any type of equipment: controllers, drives, dPACs, edge servers, or virtualized environments. This hardware‑agnostic approach is at the core of the open automation vision promoted by Schneider Electric, offering a flexible and scalable system capable of adapting to evolving industrial‑shop‑floor requirements.
The IEC 61499 function‑block model enables event‑driven execution, allowing immediate reaction to process variations and distributed task orchestration. Applications become reconfigurable, reusable, and portable from one hardware platform to another, eliminating the constraints of traditional proprietary architectures. This approach aims to simplify multi‑brand integration, promote IT/OT convergence, and reduce manual interventions—particularly in fast‑evolving industries such as water treatment, CPG, logistics, and hybrid or continuous processes.
The platform provides a unified, app‑centric, collaborative engineering environment that brings together control‑application development, HMI creation, network‑topology management, and device configuration in a single interface. Tools allow users to create, simulate, test, and deploy applications from one place. Software modules can be organized into reusable libraries, supporting standardization and multi‑site deployment. The shared runtime supports multiple editors and microservices, ensuring digital continuity throughout the entire installation lifecycle.
Native connectivity with extended industrial ecosystems—particularly advanced integration with AVEVA System Platform—enables real‑time data utilization, reuse of existing graphical elements, and synchronized engineering and operations
